I've been thinking quite a bit about the Chad Love Lieberman sitch here on dA major-thief-hunters.deviantart… and it's had me thinking about the difference between what CLL has allegedly done (theft, plagiarism, fraud) versus what artists do.

Many years ago I saw a birdhouse quilt square up at Keepsake Quilting in New Hampshire. Of course, this was back in the day pre-internet, and I was just leaving the shop heading back to SW Pennsylvania where I lived at the time; couldn't take a picture and there was no way I could look the pattern up later. So I quickly drew one of the squares and then headed off home. Over time I took that block (which was a square) and made it uniquely my own. Eventually, the 4 squares I developed became a queen-sized quilt.*

We've all been in this situation before - we see a piece we like and we do something with it, just as I did with the birdhouse quilt square. But I think the biggest difference between CLL and honest, ethical artists is that we use a piece as inspiration rather than calling it our own. Just as I did with the birdhouse square and with the countless amazing quilts I see here on dA, when I see something inspirational, I think "Wow! I wonder how it would look if I did "this?"

Which is why CLL really grates my cheese. Rather than be inspired by the wonderful art here on dA he resorted to common thievery. Think of what he could have done if he had been inspired instead ...

*fav.me/d47uaic This is a WIP and it's still waiting to be quilted. I think I've finally gotten to the point where I realize I won't be able to quilt it at home and I'll have to send it out to a professional with a long-arm quilt.

Pins for Pets

2 min read
I don't normally do this, but ...

The Hubster (:iconwandering-lemming:) and I will be participating in the 4th Annual "Pins for Pets - Bowl for the Fix." Pins for Pets raises money each August to reduce pet overpopulation in our state (Minnesota). This year, all proceeds raised by Pins for Pets will go to the Minnesota Spay and Neuter Program, or MN-SNAP. MN-SNAP has a mobile veterinary unit that travels around the state and provides free/low cost spay and neuters to low income families and rescue groups. MN-SNAP will even spay and neuter feral cat colonies! MN-SNAP has only been in existence for a couple years, but they are keeping incredibly busy - all of their free clinics are booked far in advance and their spay and neuter services are incredibly helpful for families facing hard economic times.

So Lemming-Zack and I are raising money and will be bowling tomorrow. If you're in the Twin Cities, consider joining our team! There are some walk-in spots available and participants can tour the MN-SNAP mobile clinic, meet some families who are using MN-SNAP services, and be eligible to win some great prizes, including an iPad and a 55-inch TV!!

If you can't bowl with us, please consider making a donation to Pins for Pets here --> www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser…. Any donation is greatly appreciated!

You can read more about MN-SNAP here, if you are interested -->mnsnap.org/

And ... don't for get to spay and neuter your pets!!

Thanks for reading

So we had a helluva storm here on Saturday morning. Power was out for about 5.5-6 hours on Saturday morning with 90-degree-F heat that afternoon on top of high humidity. About 9 am Lemming-Zack and I grabbed the dog and walked over to my parent's house and made some breakfast. (We couldn't drive because the garage windows are sealed and the door has an electric door opener ... no electricity, no getting to the car!

Later that morning we discovered water in the basement. Not a horrible amount (less than a gallon all told), but it did require some clean up and prodigious use of a squeegee (thanks to Lemming-Zack). Needless to say, my plan to quilt all Saturday morning was for naught.

Did catch a Twins game on Sunday ... in the 105-degree-F heat index. We won. I didn't pass out from the heat. I consider that to be a win-win. Then caught HP7.2 after dinner. So Sunday was a bust, too.

But I am *determined.* I need to get Simon's quilt done, but soon! That little boy is now 1 year old and he needs a new blankie, so I am going to get his quilt done!

...and then post photos here!

Catch-22?

I have to work to make money to buy supplies for my expensive addictions crafts.

But the more time I work, the less time I have to devote to said crafts.

I'm afraid I don't like where this is headed ....

Right now I'm juggling 3 projects ...

Simon's quilt - a square-in-square set on point in some pretty wild colors. The top is done, but I was waiting to finish piecing Olivia's quilt (see below) before I changed the sewing machine settings for quilting.

Olivia's quilt - also square-in-square in pink and black. Top is done so Olivia's momma can open it at the baby shower on Sunday.

Anna's afghan - turquoise in a pattern I made up. Nearly done, which is good news since she's supposed to receive it tomorrow!

I wish I had more time to post and explore, but between work I'm bringing home for the evenings and my projects and housework, I just don't have the time right now... More later!
